But it never worked
Compound and clarity
Contortion without the elegance
Eloquent.
A smoke screen seeping for the form work
All pinched and primped
All steeled and stilled
All exerts and excerpts
Amalgam.
He told me: too much water it cracks, too little it breaks
But it sounded different coming from him
He told me about the jobs he’d go on
Broken English was a ticket for ridicule
He worked hard. They both did.
We weren’t XXXX, we weren’t XXXX either
It was better than where they’d come from
